Specialty Programs

Trauma/Emergency
Every day, critically ill patients, often with multiple traumas are rushed
to Royal Columbian, the second busiest trauma centre in the province. Our
emergency department handles over 1,900 traumas and 52,000 emergency cases
each year.
Neurosciences
Our highly-skilled neurosurgeons work with state-of-the-art technology to save
lives.
We treat people with complex neurological conditions such as strokes, brain
tumors and aneurysms, as well as injuries to the spinal cord and brain.
Cardiac Care
Our Cardiac Care Program significantly enhances the survival rate and the quality
of life for people with heart disease. One of four such centres in BC, we
perform over 680 open heart surgeries and 4,000 cardiac catheterizations
annually, making our Cardiac Catheterization Lab the busiest in Canada.
Special Care Nursery
Over the years, thousands of babies from across the province credit Royal Columbian
with their first days, weeks and months of life. Our Special Care Nursery
is one of three regional neonatal intensive care centres in BC caring for
premature babies, multiple birth babies and those with serious health problems.
Each year we treat 1,300 babies and provide emotional support to their families.
Maternal
Health
Our Maternal Health Program offers a wide array of specialized services, including
a High Risk Obstetrics Clinic, resulting in healthy babies, healthy mothers
and happy families. Over 3,000 babies make their debut at Royal Columbian each
year, making us one of the busiest maternity wards in BC.
