The Medtronic External Pacemaker is a device that regulates the beating of the heart. The pacemaker will stimulate the heart when the heart’s own pacemaker slows or when there is a disruption to the electrical impulses to the heart affecting the heart rate. External pacing is used to initially stabilize the heart rate and rhythm in emergency situations post cardiac surgery until the heart stabilizes or until a permanent method of pacing is available.
