Coquitlam Foundation funds new ceiling lift to help move critically ill patients at RCH

New Westminster, B.C., July 13, 2007 — Recently, the Coquitlam Foundation donated $3,500 to fund a new ceiling lift at Royal Columbian Hospital for its new ICU and help safely move critically ill patients in and out of bed.
The $3,500 donation means critically ill patients in the hospital’s new ICU who are mobility-impaired can now be safely transferred from their beds without discomfort. The ceiling-mounted lift is located on tracks above the patient bed and a motor and sling system is used to reposition the patient or lift them out of bed and into a wheelchair, for example. The ceiling lift also offers a safer and easier option for health care professionals compared to manually moving patients.
Colleen Talbot, Board Member of the Coquitlam Foundation, visited the hospital on July 11 to tour the new ICU during a plaque presentation ceremony.
