Wesgroup Properties helps fund new Cardiac Surgery ICU at Royal Columbian Hospital

New Westminster – January 21, 2008 – Wesgroup Properties announced today their pledge of $62,500 in support of the Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) Foundation, with $17,500 immediately benefiting the new Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU) through the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment.
“Support from donors and our community partners, like Wesgroup, really make a difference,” said Adrienne Bakker, President and CEO of RCH Foundation. “As the major heart centre for the Fraser Health region, RCH is under strain from the increasing demand for critical cardiac services. Funding equipment for the CSICU helps to improve care and outcomes for heart patients.”

RCH's new Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit opened to receive its first patients January 21. The 3,000-sq.-ft. cardiac unit, double the size of the old one, will now accommodate eight beds, an increase of two, in two four-bed pods. The RCH Foundation’s $2-million Heart to Heart Campaign is raising money to help fund equipment for cardiac services in general as well as the Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit in particular.
As the tertiary referral centre, RCH is the only hospital in Fraser Health to perform open heart surgery.
