Thank you for your support
New Westminster – March 27, 2008 – Royal Columbian Hospital (RCH) Foundation commemorated 30 years of community support and care with a Vegas-style cocktail reception at Birks Vancouver on Thursday night.
Hosted by Gloria Macarenko of CBC News: Vancouver, this black-tie event was the first of its kind for RCH Foundation, and was sold-out well in advance of the evening.
Guests were invited to join “Sammy Davis Jr.” and “Marilyn Monroe” in toasting RCH Foundation’s 30 years of success, while the Artie Devlin Quartet serenaded the night away. Proceeds from ticket sales, a Birks raffle and a line-up of exclusive auction items contributed $250,000 toward RCH Foundation’s $2-million Heart to Heart campaign.
The campaign is raising money to help fund state-of-the-art equipment purchases at RCH, heart centre for the Fraser Health region. Proceeds from the campaign will help reduce waiting time and provide more services for patients who need open-heart surgery or a less invasive procedure such as cardiac catheterization.
“We are thrilled that our 30th anniversary celebration is directly benefiting critical cardiac services at RCH,” said Adrienne Bakker, President & CEO of RCH Foundation. “Heart disease affects us all in some way or another, as it is the leading cause of death in Canada. Helping us raise money to fund vital cardiac equipment and the new Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit is an essential investment in community health.”
The RCH Foundation Gala was organized by a committee of dedicated volunteers, RCH Foundation and the Foundation Board of Directors under the leadership of Gala co-chairs Belle Puri and John Ashbridge. BC Lions Head Coach and General Manager Wally Buono, a former RCH open-heart patient, and his wife, Sande, were honourary co-chairs.
